TH78A.12 CLONING: The TH-78a can be cloned without cloning cables or special equipment. This "cloning" will allow the entire contents of the memory to be transmitted and stored in another TH-78a. The TH-78a cloning proceedure is accomplished over air with the two TH-78a units on the same frequency. Placing them side by side on a simplex frequency is best but you can clone over a repeater (if you don't time it out or make the owner mad) if desired. This "undocumented" feature can be of great use if fleets of radios are purchased for clubs or user groups and all need similar programming. It's important to keep in mind that with the ME-1 memory expansion module installed the cloning can take up to an hour. Your best move is to use 2 dummy loads side by side. PROCEEDURE: (1) Both radios must be on the same frequency. (2) Activate both radios by pressing the "0" key while turning the power on. The lower radio displays will read "CLONE". (3) Now, click the PTT of the "master" radio. The radio will transmit on the selected frequency in the "economy low" power mode. You will hear the DTMF (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency) touch tones come out of the speaker as the radio transmits the contents of it's memory. The full transfer will take about 4 minutes for fifty channels. When the data has been transferred, both radios will revert back to the original frequency. (4) Turn both radios off, and then on again. They will now operate normally and the memory contents of both radios will be the same. end of part 3
