UCSD.EDU has the master ampr.org, ampr.org.rev, and amrphosts files available for anonymous FTP in the /hamradio directory. These files are maintained by YOU with the help of a mail robot which is reached at the address ampraddr@ucsd.edu They are refreshed at 5 am (USA Pacific time) daily. Input to the robot consists of one or more lines of text in the body of the mail message of the following forms: hosts table format: 44.1.2.3 hostname domain database format: hostname in a 44.1.2.3 nickname in cname hostname hostname in mx 0 hostname hostname in mx 10 mailhost1 hostname in mx 20 mailhost1 The robot will also accept DELETE commands in domain database format; simply replace the last field on the line with the word DELETE and the matching entry will be removed from the tables. Records which match existing entries for hostname, type (A, CNAME, MX), and MX preference value will replace the previous entry. It is the custom that 'hostname' is either your callsign or a subhost within your callsign domain, e.g. WB6CYT, PC.WB6CYT, WOMBAT.WB6CYT, etc. Do NOT include '.ampr.org' in the hostname. A word on MX (Mail eXchanger) records: If you specify MXs, you should have one on the AMPRNET (net 44) so that mail sent to you from other amateurs can reach you there. If you also have some way for mail from the connected internet to reach you, you should specify one or more mailhosts that are connected to the internet and which will forward your mail. Note that is both stupid and a violation of sound networking principles to use an "ampr.org" address in mail going to the Usenet or internet when in fact your ampr.org address cannot be resolved to a host or mail exchanger connected to the internet. (There are dozens of people doing this, and it causes a great deal of annoyance!) - Brian
